When do we use direct interview questions?

With so much emphasis on asking open-ended questions during interviews, recruiters had forgotten that direct questions are as important.

When do we use Direct Questions?

1. At the very beginning

Candidates are usually nervous in the interview until he or she starts to speak. One of the interviewer’s goals is to get the candidate to talk as early as possible in the interview process. Direct questions are thus amazingly effective. Some examples I often used:-

PJ can be pretty crowded. Did you have any trouble looking for a parking?

Would you like to have a cup of water?

Would you like to visit the washroom first before we begin?

2. A specific information or fact is required

There are two strategies that you can use. The first is to use direct questions like salt and pepper – sprinkled throughout the interview and never back-to-back. This strategy is known as the one-two approach. The second strategy is to use an introductory phrase so that the direct question is somewhat disguised.

Examples of the first strategy:-

Direct question: Do you have any experience dealing with angry customers?

Candidate: Yes.

Open-ended question: What specific techniques do you use for handling such situations?

Direct question: How many people were there on your team?

Candidate: Seven.

Open-ended question: What specific role did you play?

Direct question: Are you the kind of person who likes challenges?

Candidate: Yes.

Open-ended question: How do you like to be challenged?

Examples of the second strategy:-

Direct question: How many jobs have you had in the past five years?

Introductory phrase: I’d be interested to learn how many jobs you’ve held over the past several years.

Direct question: How often did you get together with your boss to set goals?

Introductory phrase: In your working experience, how often did you and your boss get together to set goals?

Direct question: When did you get your last salary increase?

Introductory phrase: I wonder, do you recall the date of your last salary increase?

Suppose, because her company was not doing well, the candidate has had no raise for two years. So, when the question, “When did you get your last salary increase?” the candidate could immediately exhibits some defensive language. On the other hand, if you say, “I wonder if you recall the date of your last salary increase?” you are much more likely to get a non defensive, informational response.

10 THINGS THE BEST BOSSES HAVE IN COMMON

I know it’s almost a cliché but it can never be emphasized enough that people are the biggest and most important investment for any business. And whether you are the business owner, an Office Manager or Head of Department – as long as you have a team of people reporting to you, they view you as the “boss”.
How do you ensure that the people that work for you enjoy reporting to you?
Are you the best boss to have around?

Here are 10 ways you can become a better boss. The top 6 are taken from the book, The Entrepreneur’s Book of Checklists by Robert Ashton, and the rest are added by Ally.

1.Big ears – good bosses not only listen, they take genuine interest in their staff.

2.Long legs – be seen to be interested and involved; walk around the place, visit customers.

3.White teeth – smiling bosses make people happy. If the problem is not one your staff can help to solve, keep it to yourself.

4.Good vision – people only follow leaders who know where they’re going.

5.Tongue control – emotional responses, such as shouting and ranting have their place but not if it means humiliating your staff. Sometimes it’s best to hold your tongue.

6.Firm hand – you are the boss. You are expected to make unpopular decisions where necessary and to be firm with those who don’t pull their weight.

7.No finger pointing – a good leader takes responsibility for the outcome and performance of the business. If there is a problem, a good boss will take the full blame and not resort to finger pointing.

8.Give recognition – everyone wants to be appreciated for a good idea, a job completed within the deadline, sales that exceeds the target given and etc. The golden rule: be lavish with praises but stingy with criticisms.

9.Understanding – a good boss realizes and understands a genuine personal emergency when he sees one. A good boss will not sulk but instead provide support and relief.

10.Provide mentoring – a good boss trains, guides and develops future leaders. They desire to see their employees or team members grow in their job and would not regret and lament when they are being sought after by other employers.

As most people spend more than eight hours at their office, a great working place is an important factor for employees to consider whether their bosses are good or not. According to Robert Ashton, it need not cost the Earth for employers to provide a great place to work. Here are a few very affordable ways.

• Soft loo paper – pay the extra for the good stuff. Also make sure toilets are clean and in good working order.

• Graffiti board – why not create places for your staff to have their say, free from criticism and retribution?

• Good tools – usually the best tools cost less than the wrong tools and waste less time.

• Surprises – we all like nice surprises, for example ice cream on a hot day.

BEWARE THE PREDATORY NIGHT RIDERS
What is it that makes one a Mat Rempit’s choice target for attack? Is it our appearance or the kind of car we drive?
Get into the psyche of these rogue riders and learn what you can do to elude them.

WHO DO THEY PREY ON?
According to crime analyst Kamal Effendi Hashim, Mat Rempit typically attack those who are alone or few in numbers at the roadsides, bus stops, on highways or at petrol stations between midnight an the early morning.

DOES YOUR APPEARANCE OR YOUR CAR MATTER?
These predators do not choose their victims, says Kamal Effendi. So unless the boys want to hijack your car, they usually will not pay attention to what you’re driving. Which means, anyone in any car is a potential target when opportunity presents itself

WHAT YOU CAN DO TO PROTECT YOURSELF
-Adopt a habit of always being aware of your surroundings. Lock your car from the moment you enter until you exit it at home.

-Never place your handbag on the passenger seat where it’s visible to all. This gives THIEVES an opportunity to smash your window and grab it.

-Should your job require you to home at night, disguise yourself to look like a boy with a baseball cap and men’s jacket and avoid traveling home using lonely roads.

-if you’re at the traffic lights and suddenly you’re surrounded by the Mat Rempits, call the emergency number (set it on speed) switch to speaker mode (so you have both hands to drive) and start shooting details of them and your location. Look opportunities to escape before they get a chance to rob or hurt you.

Isteri tertuduh kes rompak sebenarnya lelaki tukar jantina

JEREBU LAGI

Jerebu di Kuala Lumpur

Sewaktu aku berada di rumah, aku kurang selesa dengan keadaan cuacanya agak pelik haba dan bahang agak panas, kipas dah full tapi still panas jg..nak rehat di bilik jangan cakap Hui!! punya la panas tak selesa langsung dibuatnya, nak tak nak terpaksa la rehat kat ruang tamu..Emmm rupa-rupanya itulah kesan jerebu.

Apakah Jerebu?

Sekarang ni Malaysia dilanda El Nina, kemarau teruk.

May God Bless us..Amen
